Student learning is the chief priority and drives all decisions impacting the work of the school.
Teachers, administrators, parents, students, and the community share the responsibility and accountability for student learning.

Curriculum and instructional practices should incorporate a variety of learning activities to accommodate differences in learning styles, abilities, and cultures and promotes student engagement.

Educational and Learning Environment
Farmer Elementary is a well-established elementary school with strong community support and parent involvement. The original Farmer School opened in 1924 as a K-12 school and in 1960 when Southwestern Randolph High School opened it moved to a K-8 school. In August, 1992 Farmer Elementary moved to its current location in the Farmer community.
The community of Farmer is located approximately 12 miles south of Asheboro, NC on Highway 49 South and 40 miles southwest of Greensboro, NC. It is a beautiful, small rural farming community.
There is a commitment to excellence here by the staff and the school community. Our PTO is heavily involved in fundraising monies to help meet the needs of our students as well as the instructional materials and/or equipment needs in the classrooms. The Farmer Staff has also initiated a fundraising fund to provide additional part-time support staff and help address the increasing need for technology in the classroom. Enrichment classes including AIG, art, physical education, music, media, guidance and Chromebook lab are provided to all K-5 students. Students receive enrichment instruction from each area on a weekly or biweekly basis.
After school programs such as our Service Club, Recreation Club, Environmental Club and Battle of the Books (EBOB) team all provide well-rounded social, cultural and fitness experiences for our students. Additionally, out PTO sponsored athletic programs provide healthy and recreational sporting opportunities in boys and girls basketball, cheerleading, and Coach-pitched baseball.
Farmer Elementary embraces our community partners' involvement in the educational and social development of our students. Our current community partners include The Timken Company, Chick fil-A, Farmer Fire Department, Kidz Bounce Party, Subway, Strawbridge Photography, Communities in Schools and McDowell Lumber Company. Our students also receive support from PTO, parents, churches, and numerous volunteers throughout the school year.
Each Farmer students learns in an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students and adults. Our physical, emotional, academic, and social school climate is safe, friendly, and student-centered. Our Positive Behavior Instruction Support (PBIS) program, Falcon P.R.I.D.E. Core Essentials, guides us through our school-wide discipline program. Each day students strive to show their Falcon P.R.I.D.E. (Prepared, Respectful, Involved, Dependable, & Engaged) to each other, teachers, and staff helping them to make smart decisions and maximizing their potential. Our students feel valued, respected, and cared for and are motivated to learn. Additionally, our second grade students learn about personal safety through our countrywide sheriff's department's Child Abuse Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) program. Our 5th graders participate in Project D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). Both of these programs are a cooperative effort between the Randolph county Sheriff's Office and the Randolph County Board of Education. Project D.A.R.E. is a program designed to teach the students how to "SAY NO" to illegal drugs and pressures placed upon them by peers, based upon reason rather than internal and external forces.
Farmer's school climate, curriculum, and instruction reflect both high expectations and an understanding of child growth and development. Each student is actively engaged in learning and is connected to the school and broader community. Our teachers use active learning strategies, such as teaching an integrated curriculum, cooperative learning and project-based learning. Our school uses curriculum-related experiences such as field trips and outreach projects to complement and extend our curriculum and instruction. Our curriculum and instruction promotes students' understanding of the real-world and application of learned content. Our school expects and prepares students to assume age-appropriate responsibility for learning through effective decision making and goal setting.
Our school personalizes learning with differentiated lessons and activities. Our teachers use a range of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment tasks to monitor student progress and adjust teaching-learning activities to maximize student progress. Our school ensures that adult-student relationships support and encourage each student's academic and personal growth. Each student has access to our school counselor and other structured academic, social, and emotional support systems. Our school staff understands and makes curricular, instructional, and school improvement decisions based on child development and student performance information. Our school personnel welcome and include all families as partners in their children's education and significant members of the school community. Every member of our school staff is well qualified and properly credentialed.
